Hi! My name is Jennifer and I am the woman behind Barbelles & Book Nerds. I am a wife, and a stay at home mom of 3, a special needs mom and a lover of all things books and coffee. I am on a health and fitness journey that at one time lead me to be an at home fitness coach. I have since decided to spread my wings a bit although I still love the programs I used. I have an obsession with super heroes. My puggle Toby is my constant shadow when I’m at home. He follows me everywhere and I’m constantly stepping on him. I would much rather spend my weekends curled up with a good book and a cup of coffee, then out on the town partying. All you introverts know what I’m saying. Speaking of being an introvert, I loath going to the gym. I always feel like everyone is looking at me, not to mention, I never really had the time or money to go to one. So finding an at home fitness program that worked for me was an awesome discovery and one I love sharing with anyone interested.
My love of books extends back to childhood with series like The Baby Sitters Club and Sweet Valley High. In High School I was reading Stephen King, Then I moved on to Nora Roberts and other romance authors as a young adult. Now I read just about anything. When eReaders came out and I realized how many free books there were, I was so excited! After all, my reading habit was and still can be quite expensive. Through social media, I have gotten to meet many of the authors of these great Indy books and I’ve learned that many self published authors are really struggling to get word of their books out to readers everywhere. It is my hope to help bring readers to as many of these authors as I can and to bring my love of reading to others.
Now lets move on to my love of fitness. It’s a little newer. In fact sometimes it’s even a love/hate relationship. I was never a very active person. As I said earlier, I would much rather curl up with a good book or just hang out with a couple close friends. I was never what you would call athletic or a skinny minnie and when I had my babies my weight skyrocketed and I had no idea how to lose it. A few years ago a met a lady who changed my life. She eventually became not just my friend, but my coach and mentor. She introduced me to some at home workouts and over the course of a year, I lost over 25 pounds and gained quite a bit of muscle. She encouraged me to share my journey with others and become a coach so I did.
It’s been a few years since that happened. We live in Washington now and with that move came a few health issues that have put a road block up in my journey to being a healthier stronger me. I have a vitamin D deficiency from the small amounts of sun we get here. It caused me to have low energy which also caused me to become depressed. The medications I had to take caused weight gain and in the end really didn’t make me feel to much better. So 2 years later I am starting over again. I have decided to try to find natural holistic ways to treat myself and get my mind and body healthy again. It is a journey I have just recently started again after struggling this past couple of years, and I am finally finding success!
I invite you to join me on my journey to better health. In my blog I will be talking about the products and programs I use to help me fight my health issues and become healthy again. I will be sharing my struggles and successes! I still run an accountability group on Facebook. It is now open to the public. We are just a bunch of badass ladies trying to help each other be the healthiest and happiest we can be. Please join us!
My goal with BarBelles & Book Nerds is to bring my old love of books together with my newer love of health and fitness. To be able to share both with you. So while you are browsing for books, feel free to check out how I’m getting fit and healthy again. You might just find something that works for you!
