Hey everyone! I thought I’d take a few minutes and share with you some of the main things I had going on last week. I’m hoping to make this a regular thing and as I pick up more of you as subscribers, I may turn it into a newsletter but for now you can find it all here in this one spot. So let’s get started shall we?
What’s going on with me?
I am so excited to have this blog to share with you! I have been working for a few months with a couple of very cool ladies that I think everyone should get to know if you are looking to start your business and excel at running it and market your brand.
One of those ladies is Shauna Zamarripa at Valkeryie Consulting who set up my blog for me, and continues to send me tips on how to run it successfully and not fall flat on my face. She did a team call for a fellow beachbody coach that I had the privilege of listening to and everything she talked about spoke to me as I had the first ideas of setting up a new website. If you are wanting to learn new effective strategies for marketing your brand, she’s your girl!
I also had the pleasure of working with Amy Green of IceMaiden Art over the past couple of months. She designed the logos and banners for the new blog. I heard about her through an author friend of mine on Facebook Arnie Tij King. I saw a post of his about her work right about the time I made the decision to have a banner made. She ended up doing a full logo, mini logo, blog banner, and cover art for both my facebook and twitter pages. She was very patient when there were delays with me getting the site up and running so I could give her the banner sizes. She was great at walking me through it and keeping me involved with the design process. I had a good idea of what I wanted the banner to look like but not the logo. She took my ideas and ran with them. Throughout the process she would show me different design ideas and I would pic what I liked best. She would tweak them a bit until I had the exact banner that I had imagined and the perfect logo to match. I really enjoyed working with her and will definitely go to her again for any future design work. For all you authors she also does cover art and teasers among other things. I highly recommend her!
I will tell you that this is my first time having a website built so I was completely new to the experience and had no idea what I was doing. Both ladies were very patient with me as I learned from the experience. Overall even after a few setbacks and delays, it was a positive experience, and my vision is coming to fruition as we speak.
So I have my blog setup into the two main sections that I want people see; the health and fitness section (Barbelles) and the book and author section (Book Nerds) I did that because I want everyone to have complete access to all of it, but I also want you to just be able to look for the things you came for. So if you just want to look at books you can, and if you just want to look at fitness stuff you can do that too. But you are always welcome to look at everything and I hope you do! Having said that, let’s see what’s going on in both those worlds.
What fitness program am I currently doing?
My husband and I have been trying to do Body Beast together for the past several weeks. I say trying because it’s been kind of hit or miss, but we keep moving forward. The first week went okay but I over did it on leg day and couldn’t finish out the week because my quads refused to work right for the rest of the week. Note to all of you, this program is deceptively simple so even if you’re used to using heavier weights, start off light and work your way up. Lessons learned. So we ended up repeating week one. On week 2 my husband had to go out of town for the week and I was left doing it on my own. Again, I managed to get about half of the workouts complete but at least they were mainly the ones I hadn’t done on the first try. Week 3 was much of the same. That brings us to this week and we are starting the bulk phase of the program. If yesterday’s chest workout is any indication of how this is going to go then I think I’m gonna like it. The best part about this is I get to eat a lot of food. It’s also one of the hardest parts to wrap my mind around. Don’t get me wrong though, it’s not like I can eat 2,000 calories of sugar and shit, although I wish I could. No I still have to eat good healthy foods and a lot of lean protein.
Guess what fitness programs are on sale this month?
It’s Shaun T’s birthday this month and to celebrate it, beachbody has put a few of his challenge packs on sale.
The first one is CIZE and that’s the one I’m focused on this week. If you like to dance and have fun then this is the program for you. You won’t even know you’re getting a great workout in. I have embarrassed myself on Facebook doing CIZE for your viewing pleasure so hop on over and see it. Give me like while you’re there if you haven’t already. Now to get back on the subject. If you want to know more about CIZE just Click on the link or go to the Barbelles section of the blog and hover over Shaun T.
The other challenge packs on sale is Insanity Max:30. It is a very intense 30 minute workout designed to help you lose weight and gain lean muscle in the shortest period of time you can. It lasts 60 day and has 2 phases. Here’s how it works. You go as hard as you can for as long as you can until you can’t hold proper form or you reach muscle failure and can’t continue. That is your Max Out time. I have only tried Insanity Max:30 once and I Maxed Out at around 8 minutes. That was when I was in some of the best shape of my life so don’t worry if you can’t do much your first try. You can find more info on this program the same way as the first. I have to say the Shaun T is definitely a versatile person because these programs and his others are like polar opposites.
Do you know what I read last week?
Last week I finished two good books. The first book was Soulless Nights by Virginia Johnson. It wasn’t my usual read but she did a great job writing on the subject of sex trafficking without being overly graphic. I told her that I didn’t feel like I needed to take a shower afterwards but that she did get the horrid nature of that industry out there. She even managed to get a love story in there even though the two main characters spent most of the time apart, it was the journey to finding each other that gets you through the grit of it. To read my review and get the buy links click on the book name or look look under Book Nerds on the blog.
The other book I finished was Waiting on Faith by Nichole Richard. This book also had a semi dark theme, but it had a much lighter feel to it. Natalie the main female character, was in an abusive relationship that she managed to get out of. She was just getting her life together when she meets and falls in love with Cy. Cy has his own demons that he’s dealing with after being bullied most of his childhood and teen years, he has definite hangups when it comes to relationships. The book touches very briefly on the abuse and focuses more on the recovery and resulting relationship. It’s really good and I highly recommend it. Click on the title for more info and buy links.
Upcoming Author Events.
And now we get to the fun stuff. I only have one upcoming event to talk about for this week. Kyle Perkins and Lila Vale are celebrating the release of his new book Bait, Brutes, and Bullets with a party and it’s happening this Saturday, May 7th at 9am and lasts through May 9th. It is a dystopian book about the state of the world after a massive flood changes the structure of the land. It should be an interesting read. I hope to see you at the party. There will be new authors to meet, new books to discover, and prizes to be won!
I know this post was a long one. Sorry about that, there was just a lot of news I wanted to get out there. Hopefully my next posts will be shorter and sweeter. Hopefully. LOL.
