What’s Happening With Me?

It’s been awhile since I wrote a post here. A lot of changes have been happening on the home front, including the home. That’s right! We moved! It’s actually only about 5 minutes from our other home, but it’s in a completely different city.

The New House

I can honestly say that even though it wasn’t really our choice to move, I’m so loving our new house! We have a huge back yard with a play place for my youngest and beautiful gardens. Another plus is that so far our neighbors have been really friendly. This house is a major upgrade from where we were so it turned out to be a blessing in surprise.

 

In Other News:

Almost as soon as we moved into our new house I started experiencing health issues. I thought I might be allergic to something in the house because I was extremely itchy especially in my legs. It got so bad that I finally went to the doctor. Turns out I had a reaction to a combination of cheap razors and cheap shaving cream. My skin became so irritated that my follicles became inflamed and almost became infected. I was curious as to what was in the shaving cream could have caused it and when looking at the ingredients, I realized that one of the top ingredients was propane. Yes that’s right. I was basically shaving my legs with lighter fluid.

I can not emphasize enough the importance of checking ingredients! Not just in the things we put in our bodies, but also in the things we put on them. Treating this issue has been almost as big of a pain in my ass as the problem itself and I wouldn’t wish it on my enemies.

In researching natural/ home remedies that I could do to help treat the problem and relieve the itching, I read to use lotion with oatmeal a the main active ingredient. I spent nearly half an hour in Target reading the labels on all the lotions that say they have oatmeal in them until I finally found the ones that I was looking for. You know the $15 small tube of eczema relief lotion. I ended up buying the generic store brand version thinking it was pretty much the same thing. Not so much! As it turns out I’m allergic to something in that lotion as well which caused me to break out in hives over the rest of my body.

The moral of this story…..

As stated above, always read labels, and, sometimes it’s worth it to spend the extra money to get a better quality product.

The original intent of this blog was to bring health, fitness, and nutrition to the book community. I know many of us, whether we be authors, bloggers, or readers, spend a large amount of time sitting and inactive. I also know that this can lead to extremely poor eating habits. So I wanted to provide a way for us all to stay healthy while still being a part of this community and promoting the books and authors that we all love.

If you haven’t noticed, I have been a little inactive in the fitness side of things, and have been focusing more on the book side.

This all started when we moved to Washington. I was so excited to move here. It may sound strange but I was tired of the constant sunshine and lack of weather in California. I’m an East Coast girl at heart. I also knew that there were so many outdoor things to do in Washington and I love rain.

The problem is, I wasn’t expecting the cold wet winter we had here. The constant dark, grey skies, or the effect they would have on me.

I have spent the last year becoming increasingly depressed, anxious, and withdrawn to the point that I wouldn’t even leave the house. My energy has gotten lower and lower, and I haven’t been able to consistently exercise since we have been here.

Add the lack of interest in cooking and you have a recipe for disaster.

So…..while I was at the doctor for my itching problem, I brought it up. They put me on antidepressants and did blood work. Turns out I have a Vitamin D deficiency. This also causes tiredness and lack of energy.

Knowing that I have a legitimate reason for feeling the way I have lately is kind of empowering. I was feeling like a failure having gained all the weight I worked so hard to lose back and not being able to do anything to help it. Now I am working on fixing the problem with supplements and meds. I am cooking again, and doing my best to get healthy again.

I am also learning to give myself a little grace. God knows I need it. I have to remind myself that If I don’t get everything done today, it’s okay. As long as I got up and moved, I’ve made progress and done something.

I’m on my treadmill again, starting small. I’m doing yoga. Before you know it I’ll be back doing the 21 day fix and other great programs that helped me get healthy in the past.

Important Message:

You may hear me talk a lot about losing weight. But it really isn’t about that. It’s about getting healthy. I hope to lose a little weight in the process so I can look cuter in my clothes, but my main focus is feeling better and helping others feel better. We are all beautiful the way we are, but we also need to feel good about ourselves. We need to take care of ourselves. Be confident, so we can be the roll models for future generations.
