Kelly is focused completely on her work on catching bad guys. Reading others minds is great when putting evil people behind bars but horrible when it comes to dating. When Kelly’s best friend drags her to a speed dating night, Kelly’s world is turned around when she meets the sexy Brad. Kelly has many secrets that she won’t share with anyone but her friend Cami.
Can they make it work? Will Kelly tell Brad her secret? Or will Kelly’s past come back to haunt her?

Hear the Heat by McKayla Schutt is a short story that was previously part of an anthology.
It is about Kelly and Brad who meet each other at a speed dating event that their friends dragged them to. They have immediate chemistry and decide to make a night of it.
What Brad doesn’t know is that Kelly has a special ability. She can hear what people are thinking when she wants too. Because of her ability she is part of a secret section of the FBI.
The question is, will Kelly let Brad in on her little secret and will he be able to handle it if he knows?
It’s nice to read a short story that doesn’t leave out the details. McKayla gives you just enough to help you envision the story, but doesn’t drag it out at the same time. You get to know the characters just enough to identify with them and make them feel real while continuing to move along with the story.
I love the instafeeling in this story. It’s not really love at first sight, but it is definitely lust at first sight. They both however have baggage that they have to get past before they decide if they want to turn it into a relationship.
This was a good little read and I enjoyed it.
