Redeemer

Synopsis:

Hunt down the weapon pieces, destroy the night goddess, protect Midgard (Earth). That was always the mission . . .

When an unexpected sacrifice turns Allie’s world on its head, she discovers her true function within the Asgardian world. Her new purpose has much higher stakes—and significantly bigger dangers—than she ever could have imagined. And as the Goddess of Night unleashes an unparalleled wave of fury across the realms, Allie’s dream of a peaceful future with her favorite protector all but disappears. Nott’s determined to control Midgard. But Allie has more to fight for than ever before, and she’s determined to end the Night War . . . no matter what it costs her.

My Review:

Rating: 5 Stars ✰✰✰✰✰

The Night War Series by Leia Stone and S.T. Bende is one of my favorite young adult series. It’s clean and refreshing while not skimping on the danger and hardships faced by Allie and her protectors as they fight Nott, the Night Goddess.

Redeemer is the last book in this three book series which should be read in order. If you haven’t read Protector or Defender, you can grab your copy of each by clicking on their title.

The quest to find the 3 remaining pieces of Allie’s weapon continues and the stakes continue to rise. With each new piece found, Nott’s rage increases making the story line in this book one of the darkest in the series.

Lives are lost, truths are revealed, and roles change as this story unfolds, yet the characters still find time to goof off, laugh, have fun, and find love. I found myself alternating between laughing my butt off and crying my heart out.

Allie has a big decision to make. Does Nott need to be destroyed or can she be redeemed?

Title: CowSex

Author: Lesley Jones

Genre: Romantic Comedy

Release Date: September 28, 2017

CowSex

Synopsis:

If you add two strangers to a cabin, in the middle of a snowstorm, the obvious is bound to happen… CowSex.

When Essex lifestyle blogger and fashionista, Gracie Elliott crash lands into the life of Colorado mountain man Koa Carmichael, fists, chemistry and sexual banter ensue.

After the punk rock Tinker Bell and semi-retired country rock star share some sweet, emotional as well as laugh-out-loud moments, they find it impossible to deny that they might have just discovered what neither of them knew they were looking for.

CowSex, sometimes all you need is a little bit.

My Review:

Rating: 4 Stars ✰✰✰✰

What happens when a girl from Essex and a cowboy from Colorado are thrown together? CowSex! Lesley Jones wrote one heck of a funny book when she wrote Cowsex.

At first I was very hesitant to read this book, but it was recommended to me by a friend so I decided to give it a go. It was definitely worth the read.

Gracie has just ended things with her long time boyfriend and decides she needs a change of scenery. So she rents a cabin in Colorado and hops on a plane. When she gets there, to her surprise, there is someone already staying at the cabin. A tall, dark, and handsome someone who happens to own it.

The Colorado winter weather, has them both stuck together and neither one are happy about it at first, but it doesn’t take long for a chemistry to develop between the two.

Gracie has a mouth on her that left me laughing my butt off throughout the majority of the book. If it wasn’t her mouth that had me rolling, it was the awkward situations the two of them constantly found themselves in.

Don’t worry everyone, there was no CowSex. There was plenty heat going on between the two humans though so grab your lasso, shout yee-haw and get ready to laugh till you cry.

Where Sleeping Gods Lie

Title: Where Sleeping Gods Lie

Author: Yolanda Olson

Genre: Horror/Thriller/Erotica

Release Date: May 6, 2017

Where Sleeping Gods Lie

Synopsis:

Content Advisory: The following story contains scenes of a graphic nature. These scenes are horrific and sexual acts that are occurring. Bloody goodness and dirty, vicious boys lie ahead. You’ve been warned.

Logic tells us that when we reach the end of something, we stop.

Life is a game, a book; everything has an ending, but what if the end is just the beginning? My end came a long time ago and I hope you’ll understand why I can begin again at that exact moment.

There are reasons these things happen. I’m not entirely sure what they all are, and I can name a certain few, but that would defeat the purpose of figuring it out. Everything should begin as a clean slate and end in flames. Nothing is salvageable if you really open your eyes and look at this putrid world. I was once taught that everyone deserves a second chance, everyone is wonderful in their own way, and everyone finds happiness.

I used to believe that because I had found my happiness. My sliver of sunshine on a rainy day. My cool, calm in the raging fires that spoke softly enough to quiet my malicious thoughts.

But there are only so many times you can roll the dice before you keep ending up with the same numbers.

My Review:

Rating: 4 Stars ✰✰✰✰

Where Sleeping Gods Lie by Yolanda Olson has to be on of my top 3 favorites that she has written. It doesn’t rely on gore as much as many of her other stories do, however if you have every read a book by Yolanda, you know there is going to be a catch in the end.

When first getting to know Fai and Koval, they seem like your normal couple who like spicing things up every now and then by adding a third. That’s where Angie comes in. However, things take a wrong turn when a drunk Angie says all the wrong things and sends Koval into a downward spiral.

In an effort to save Koval from himself, Fai gets Angie to take him across the border to their secluded cabin. Angie is hell bent on making it up to the two men in any way she can. That was her first mistake.

I spent the whole book falling in love with Fai and Koval. I felt that Koval was full of angst and had major issues, while Fai fought to  keep him balanced. It’s this reason that I never would have guessed the ending.

Technically this book would be considered a horror, but honestly it doesn’t read that way. More like a suspense. You know something is going to go terribly wrong, but you don’t know when or how.

That’s all I can say without giving away the ending. So you’ll just have to read it for yourself.

Through all of the torture and experiments the necromancers put him through he refused to break. He held onto a small shred of hope. Hope that he would be rescued, hope that the Shadows would tear through the necro’s hidden underground lair and kill them all. He yearned to get at least one last glimpse of her.

As the lone female Dark Shadow member, Phaelyn Otvos was used to being singled out. She was one of the deadliest females to ever hold a sword. Enemies underestimated her, while potential lovers were intimidated by her. Her latest assignment—retrieve the missing vampire guard. The one person who captured her heart years ago was now her mission. Thrown together in the midst of the war between vampire and necromancers, will Phaelyn and Idris recognize that they were meant for each other?

Phaelyn

Review:

Rating: 5 Stars ✰✰✰✰✰

Phaelyn is book 2.5 in The Dark Shadows series by Ariel Marie. It is a short novella that can be read as a stand alone book.

Phaelyn is the only female in the Dark Shadows. She was once a human and was turned by her friend Nadira, the vampire princess, after being attacked by a rogue vampire in the woods outside her childhood home.

Idris is one of the royal guards. He was charged with keeping Watch over Anika, Nadira’s best friend and Toma’s fated mate, but he failed and they both ended up being taken by the necromancers. He knows it’s only a matter of time before the Dark Shadows find where they are hiding him.

Phaelyn is on the team sent to free Idris. When things don’t go quite as planned, they find themselves alone in a cabin for the night. Will they finally admit to the feelings they both have for each other?

This was a nice short read! It tied up some of the loose ends from Toma and Anikas story and also gives you a look into how Phaelyn came to be the only female in the Dark Shadows. Both Phaelyn and Idris are strong alpha characters. Idris has always had feelings for her but never acted on them. It wasn’t until they were alone that they realized that it was maybe more. There are a few dark moments in this book when Zoreal, the necromancer who tortured Idris, couldn’t handle losing and decides he needs some revenge. But don’t worry, there is plenty of HOTNESS to balance things out. It is another great book to continue this series.

Our happiness is all that matters.

Review:

Rating: 3 Stars ✰✰✰

Pearl’s Awakening by GM Scherbert is the third book in the Devil’s MC Series. Before you read this book you may want to read the first two books in the series.

The story starts off shortly after Pearl ran from Blaze and Tank. She is headed up to a cabin that her late husband left for her daughters to cool off and figure out what she wants to do in her relationships with both men. She made a promise to Blaze and she wants to honor that promise, but she still has feelings for Tank as well.

She is afraid to tell them both how she feels and ask for what she wants. She’s not even sure if its possible to have. Can they work it out? Who will she pick?

I’ll be honest, as individual stories, I didn’t care much for these books, but all together, the stories flow quite nice. The dialect in the books still kind of bothers me. They speak very proper english with little to no slang or contractions. In my head the character’s sounded like robots or people speaking english as a second language who haven’t learned contractions yet.

I didn’t like Tank in the first book and I don’t care much for him in this book either. He is selfish and childish. He needs to grow up and learn how to listen without being told to do it. He did however redeem himself after the baby is born. I love Blaze, he is all about Pearl. He is even willing to work with Tank to make her happy. It’s nice to see Pearl grow as a character and start to be more confident. It’s nice to see her dominant side come out a little as well. I have to say that I was very happy with the outcome and kind of surprised at the same time.

For her first series, I think the author did really well! If you like MC books with a little BDSM added in for a bit of twist, then you will like this book and the first 2 as well.

Claiming he’s part of an elite group of Guardians that police the Light and Dark, Pavel takes her into his protection.

And more importantly, will she be able to deflect the relentless advances of her so-called protector?

Pavel

Review:

Rating: 4 Stars ✰✰✰✰

Pavel by Brianna West is the second book in the Guardians in Love series but can be read as a standalone novel.

Eve and her sister have always had special powers. Ones that seem to be stronger on their birthdays. Since their parents died when they were younger, they have no idea why they have them and no one to teach them how to use them, so they do their best to hide them.

That is until the night Eve is attacked on the streets while walking home by some strange creatures. She is saved by a man who has powers of his own.

His name is Pavel and it turns out he is her protector. The problem? He’s gorgeous and he has no problem showing it.

This book was too cute! Pavel is one of those annoying guys that has no problems letting you know how hot he knows he is and no matter how hard Eve tries to get him to back off, he refuses to go away.

The truth is, he’s kind of adorable, as are his friends. They grow on Eve and every once in a while, you see Pavel’s true feelings shine through.

Eve is learning about how special she really is and what her powers are really meant for. She is being trained by Pavel on how to use them as they spend more and more time together, she finds herself being attracted to him.

As their feelings grow though, they keep finding themselves in danger and things keep trying to keep them apart. It seems there is a dark side that wants Eve and her powers for themselves.

There is a little bit of everything in this book, humor, hotness, suspense, hotness, evil, hotness, paranormal, oh and did I say hotness. It’s all in there and very tastefully done. You can’t help but love the Characters no matter how annoying they can be at times.

Owned by Dominic teaser

Review:

Rating: 4 Stars ✰✰✰✰

Owned by Dominic by KL Donn is the first book in the Possessed Series and can be read as a standalone book.

I was a little apprehensive of reading this book after I read Bullied. That book just wasn’t for me. But I thought I’d give it a try and I’m glad I did. The two books are nothing alike. This book was very well written and made complete sense. The characters were believable and identifiable. The storyline was smooth and flowed well. It was just an all around good book.

The story is about Deidre O’Connor, a young girl who grows up in a harsh environment being raised by a father who hates her and keeps her as punishment for her mother’s transgressions. She meets Dominic who was sent undercover to kill her father. He ends up being assigned as her bodyguard.

Deirdre’s father makes Dominic an offer that he cannot refuse. Her life for his.

Years later Dominic comes back to collect on the deal, but Deirdre’s father is giving in that easily.

It’s interesting to watch the relationship between Dominic and Deirdre develop from young girl and protector to lovers. The age difference is brought up, but never made a big deal. It’s based on growing, changing, and developing feelings. Dominic’s friend Case! He is a hoot and a great big comic relief to the sometimes dark feeling of the book. I have to say though that I thought the bad guys would be a bit smarter then they were. You would think running an empire would teach you a few things about evasion, but in this case, not.

There is a great mix of suspense, action, comedy, and hotness! Great Job!

One Dance for Case

Review:

Rating: 4 Stars ✰✰✰✰

One Dance for Case is book 2 in the Possessed Series by KL Donn.

This book continues the story of Dominic’s friend Case. It gives a little more background into how Case lost his leg and everything he went through during his recovery including his fall into alcoholism and how he pulled himself out of it to help Dom with his son.

When Dominics fiancé thinks her new friend is in trouble she sends the men out to the strip club where she works to make sure she is okay. When Case sees Evelyn up on the stage he can’t take his eyes off her.

Evelyn has had a rough life from the very beginning. She is working as a stripper to help support her sister and nephew. The truth is, she loves to dance. It’s an escape from her life.

Case can’t stay away from her and Evelyn can’t keep denying her attraction to him.

The question is, can he protect her and make a better life for her.

This is a great story about two damaged people who are trying to get through life and make something of themselves. They are drawn to each other and lift each other up. This isn’t a fluffy love story, but you can’t help falling in love with the characters.

You also can’t help loathing the many of the background characters who help create the dark setting for this story.

The setting is very believable and you can really feel what the characters are going through.

This is definitely worth the read.

Mercy Denied

Title: Mercy Denied: Trinity

Series: Steele Standing Book 2

Author: Jacqueline M. Sinclair

Genre: New Adult/College/Contemporary/Romance

Release Date: February 27, 2016

Synopsis:

Merrick

She and her friend set me up. Then they sent those pictures to my wife. Little did they know that she’d already left me and that I was devastated and ready to self-destruct. Because of her, I lost everything I ever wanted … the only hope I had. Now I will risk everything I have left to destroy her. It doesn’t matter why she did it, that she was hurting, or even that she was drunk. It doesn’t matter that she looks at me like she sees into my soul. Does it?

Trinity

Melanie was the one that’d sent those pictures to his wife, but it was me who’d told her to get her camera ready. I’d been angry at my ex-fiance and took it out on Merrick, wanting to expose him for the cheater I thought he was. I never dreamed it would go this far – that he would vow to destroy me. I’d take it all back if I could, but the damage is done. My mother’s life’s work is at his mercy and he’s determined to make me feel the loss that I caused him. Still, the way he looks at me I have to ask myself, did my poor choices wake the monster…or the man?

Mercy Denied

Review:

Rating: 4 Stars ✰✰✰✰

Mercy Denied by Jacqueline M. Sinclair is book 2 in the Steele Standing Series but it can be read as a stand alone book.

Trinity has just ended a relationship after being cheated on. She is heartbroken and angry. Her friend Melanie drags her out to a bar and while they are there, in walks Merrick, Melanie’s friend Ella’s ex-husband. After a few drinks and some gossip about Merrick’s behavior during his marriage, Trinity decides he needs to be taught a lesson, and she’s just the person to teach it to him. She has no idea the damage she is doing or the resulting consequences of his anger when all is said and done.

Merrick is on a downward spiral after his wife and child leave him. All he wants when he walks into that bar is to numb the pain. When he meets Trinity at the bar, he feels a connection to her. Something about her makes him decide to try to make a fresh start. But he loses everything again when some incriminating pictures surface. Now he wants revenge.

Neither of them are expecting to have feelings for the other.

This book could teach you a lesson or two about making assumptions and taking it upon yourself to dish out justice. Both the characters make some pretty big ones here. They both act out of anger, even as they are falling for each other. Merrick especially can’t get out of his own head to realize that he is making even bigger mistakes and putting blame where it doesn’t necessarily belong. I got the feeling that Trinity realized her mistake and wanted to make it right. I think she also realized she had feelings for him, but then he would do something to hurt her again and she would go back to not trusting him. They both needed to get their heads out of their butts. I kind of found myself not liking Trinity’s friend Melanie as the book went on. She seemed kind of careless about hurting other people. Even Trinity. Everyone needs a Jonah in their lives. He genuinely cares about everyone and goes out of his way make everyone happy. He is just a beautiful ray of sunshine!

This was a great follow up to Renegade! I’m looking forward to the next book!

Making it Through

Synopsis:

“I will always be there for you, Mady, always.”

One month later, I was slammed with the realization that some things you just can’t count on being true.
College sophomore, Madelyne Stewart, has it all—a wonderful home, a close-knit family, and great friends. But when tragedy strikes, it flips her world upside down. She struggles to deal with the chaos of her crumbling life.
On the brink of failing her classes, Mady reluctantly agrees to study with a tutor. Max Granger drifts into her life like a breath of fresh air. Not only is he intelligent and an excellent tutor, he’s funny, laid-back, and has the amazing ability to soothe her troubled soul. His striking looks top off a complete package any woman—Mady included—would want. Except, she isn’t looking to add anything else to her broken plate.
Can Maddy find a way to make it though her pain and see what is in front of her? Will she take chance on Max? Or will the pieces of her heart be too broken to mend?

Review:

Rating: 5 Stars ✰✰✰✰✰

Making it Through by Erin Cristofoli is a standalone novel about a girl named Maddy, who’s life is falling down around her after her brother commits suicide. This is a book of loss and rebuilding.

Maddy is having a hard time dealing with the loss of her brother. Her family has broken down and life at home is bad. She has missed weeks of school and is in danger of failing.

During a particularly bad night at home, Maddy decides to take a walk to her favorite place, a bridge, and decompress. A strange man sees her and decides to keep her company until she feels ready to leave.

That man, Max, later becomes her tutor in charge or helping her catch up and pass her classes.

Max can’t comprehend her loss, but he feels a need to be there for her. He is also falling in love with her.

As her family life continues to break down, Maddy finds herself spending more and more time with Max.

I could not imagine living in a household like Maddy’s. This book does an amazing job at showing how loss especially sudden loss can change people. It also touches on the subject of depression and suicide.

It’s not completely depressing though as it also shows what a functional, close family can be like. Max’s family is both large and close. It is the complete opposite of Maddy’s and she feels overwhelmed and jealous at first meeting them.

This was a great read! The characters were believable and story had a great flow to it.
