Where Sleeping Gods Lie

Synopsis:

Content Advisory: The following story contains scenes of a graphic nature. These scenes are horrific and sexual acts that are occurring. Bloody goodness and dirty, vicious boys lie ahead. You’ve been warned.

Logic tells us that when we reach the end of something, we stop.

Life is a game, a book; everything has an ending, but what if the end is just the beginning? My end came a long time ago and I hope you’ll understand why I can begin again at that exact moment.

There are reasons these things happen. I’m not entirely sure what they all are, and I can name a certain few, but that would defeat the purpose of figuring it out. Everything should begin as a clean slate and end in flames. Nothing is salvageable if you really open your eyes and look at this putrid world. I was once taught that everyone deserves a second chance, everyone is wonderful in their own way, and everyone finds happiness.

I used to believe that because I had found my happiness. My sliver of sunshine on a rainy day. My cool, calm in the raging fires that spoke softly enough to quiet my malicious thoughts.

But there are only so many times you can roll the dice before you keep ending up with the same numbers.

My Review:

Rating: 4 Stars ✰✰✰✰

Where Sleeping Gods Lie by Yolanda Olson has to be on of my top 3 favorites that she has written. It doesn’t rely on gore as much as many of her other stories do, however if you have every read a book by Yolanda, you know there is going to be a catch in the end.

When first getting to know Fai and Koval, they seem like your normal couple who like spicing things up every now and then by adding a third. That’s where Angie comes in. However, things take a wrong turn when a drunk Angie says all the wrong things and sends Koval into a downward spiral.

In an effort to save Koval from himself, Fai gets Angie to take him across the border to their secluded cabin. Angie is hell bent on making it up to the two men in any way she can. That was her first mistake.

I spent the whole book falling in love with Fai and Koval. I felt that Koval was full of angst and had major issues, while Fai fought to  keep him balanced. It’s this reason that I never would have guessed the ending.

Technically this book would be considered a horror, but honestly it doesn’t read that way. More like a suspense. You know something is going to go terribly wrong, but you don’t know when or how.

That’s all I can say without giving away the ending. So you’ll just have to read it for yourself.

Rating: 5 Stars ✰✰✰✰✰

Carnival of Darkness by Becca Moree is the first book in her Faetal Series.

There is so much going on in this little story, I am amazed.

First you have Brett. He works for a PI who is investigating the disappearances of several girls from the Carnival of Darkness. Brett can’t believe some of the stuff he has seen since infiltrating the carnival. He knows that he has to see his mission through in order to save all the girls.

Then there is Charlee. She is a single mom who just lost her husband. She didn’t even want to go the carnival. Scary is just not her thing. Things seem off after she gets her fortune told and they only get weirder from there.

The star of the rodeo catches her eye. She is mesmerized by him, but even more so by the fact that she can’t get a read on him. As the rodeo continues, she realizes that it’s worse then she thought. She can’t believe that the other spectators don’t realize what’s going on. She starts to question weather the things going on are really for show.

When Charlee tries to leave the carnival she finds herself kidnapped and made a part of the show. Brett takes one look at her and has the urge to throw all his hard work down the drain to save her.

Brett works for Mac, a PI with a knack for computers. Mac has noticed a group of men battling some strange things close to the carnival. He decides to enlist their help in figuring out what’s going on in the Carnival of Darkness.

The action never stops in this book. Add in some insta-love and a whole lot of creepy and you have one great story.

8 Days for Salvation

Rating: 4.5 Stars

Review:

Yolanda Olson has done it again with 8 Days for Salvation. This is another book that will push your boundaries.

Daniel Delany collects women in an attempt to save their wayward souls. His means of deliverance are enough to turn any stomach though and none have survived so far.

Faith was a former drug addict in an abusive relationship when Daniel found her. She has been in his “care” for 10 years now and it is finally her turn. Will she survive the 8 days until her salvation?

I will not lie, there are a few scenes in this book that made me absolutely cringe. I had a hard time imagining that these things could be real and that people could actually do some of the things in this story.

Having read many of Yolanda’s previous books though, I knew there would be some kind of twist and she didn’t disappoint.

This book is outstanding, depraved, interesting, and keeps you wondering what could possibly happen next. If you love horror, this is the book for you!

Atonement

Synopsis:

Trigger Warning:

THIS IS A WORK OF FICTION. Contained within the pages of this book are scenes that may make some readers uncomfortable. Scenes of sexual instances, both consensual and non consensual, blood, and intense violence are described in detail. Reader discretion is advised. In no way does the author condone such behavior.

There are three.

Each wear the mask of death and each have a reason to kill him. One he already has hidden in a place where no one will ever get to her. In a hell he created himself solely to destroy them.

There were two.

Each with the same face, same mind, same purpose in life. One died at a young age and the other hid the secret for as long as he could. But vengeance is near and there’s nowhere to hide.

There is one.

Driven by madness; the evil that lurks within. He knows that the only way to survive those who wish to see him dead is to play the game as they would have it.

Rules were meant to be broken.
Lives were meant to end.
He was meant to be their prey, but the darkness has taken over and the only way to escape the past is to destroy their future.

Atonement

 Review:

Rating: 5 Star ✰✰✰✰✰

Atonement is another great standalone novel by Yolanda Olson.

Talk about a twisted game of chess. Moses has demons and he believes killing certain women will help him exorcize them. Little does he know that it will only end up opening another door to expose a past that’s been hidden to him.

This book is like a lesson on how one incident can change the lives of so many people. It will send you on a roller coaster of emotions from queasy to compassion to anger. And just when you think you have it figured out, she throws you for another loop. If you like horror and suspense and have a strong stomach, you will love this book.

one of those weeks

What’s going on with me?

Well last week we had a few unexpected financial issues so I was on a pretty tight budget, like feed a family of five to include 2 teenagers and a bottomless pit of a 9 year old on $50 for the week tight. Needless to say, my healthy eating lifestyle took a bit of a backseat to eating what I could afford. Want to know what I did? I made a batch of Grandmas Tomato Sauce because I had everything I needed to make it in the house. Then I bought some ground meat (it was on sale), an onion, and a green pepper, Some Nitrite & Nitrate free turkey hotdogs (they were also on sale), and hotdog buns. On Monday, I made chili using the tomato sauce I made that day and some of the other ingredients I bought. On Tuesday I ground up some of the chili and used it on the hotdogs the next day I made chili mac. And that is how my week went as far as nutrition went. Needless to say, I decided to say F*ck it made it a cheat week. Don’t judge me, we all do it.

Since it was my cheat week as far as food went, it also became my cheat week where exercise was concerned. What can I say, it has just been one of those weeks, and this week hasn’t been much better except for the eating part. Now on to funner things then whether I workout and ate good.

Last week I got to chaperone my youngest sons field trip to the North Western Trek. This was such a treat for me. I haven’t had much opportunity to be involved with his school this year and this is the only field trip they took. Neither of us had been there before and it was so much fun…….Once I fed the bottomless pit otherwise known as Jackson. (Yes he spent the first half of the day complaining he was hungry). So the Northwest Trekk is like a small zoo, game farm, or wildlife preserve. There were all kinds of animals there. We could walk on the path around the park and look at all the exhibits and animals, which we did. And then we took a tram which took us around some of the lakes where we saw caribou, long horned goats, and bison. Afterwards we ate lunch, walked around some more, and then the kids got to play on this new and I have to say, awesome, playground. It was a ton of fun and I was exhausted afterwards.

The next program that is on sale this month is Insanity Max:30. The genius of this program is that you workout as hard as you can for as long as you can, and when you can’t continue with good form, you stop and that is your Max Out time. These workouts are only 30 minutes long if you make it to the end. The first time I did this one I only lasted about 8 minutes. It is a great way to get fit in a shorter amount of time.

What have I been reading lately?

I just finished reading Morning Star by S.E Rise over the weekend. Talk about a different view of Lucifer. This book gives you a whole new perspective of how the devil came to be. You also get an inside look at what makes him tick. It was a really good read but I’ll warn you now, it has some really adult themes. This is not for the youngsters.

I also had the privilege of reading The Death of Me by Yolanda Olson. If you like suspense/horror books, you will love this book. In true Yolanda style she ends it with a twist. Again, not a book for the young ones, but I thought it was great!

Weekly Recipe:

Last week I posted 2 food posts. The first one was about the FIXATE Cookbook by Autumn Calabrese. I use this cookbook a lot. It works great with the nutritional needs of most of the workout programs I do and the food tastes delicious. It even has recipes for skinny cocktails, desserts, and snacks.

I also posted a recipe from this cookbook. It was Grandma’s Tomato Sauce and I use it in more then half my cooking. In fact I use it enough that I make double batches and have my husband can it for me.

So this was another long post. I guess that’s what happens when you slack and wait till halfway through the week to do one. Next weeks will be shorter since I already wrote half of it in todays. I hope the rest of your week it great. Until Next Time!
