Phaelyn

Review:

Rating: 5 Stars ✰✰✰✰✰

Phaelyn is book 2.5 in The Dark Shadows series by Ariel Marie. It is a short novella that can be read as a stand alone book.

Phaelyn is the only female in the Dark Shadows. She was once a human and was turned by her friend Nadira, the vampire princess, after being attacked by a rogue vampire in the woods outside her childhood home.

Idris is one of the royal guards. He was charged with keeping Watch over Anika, Nadira’s best friend and Toma’s fated mate, but he failed and they both ended up being taken by the necromancers. He knows it’s only a matter of time before the Dark Shadows find where they are hiding him.

Phaelyn is on the team sent to free Idris. When things don’t go quite as planned, they find themselves alone in a cabin for the night. Will they finally admit to the feelings they both have for each other?

This was a nice short read! It tied up some of the loose ends from Toma and Anikas story and also gives you a look into how Phaelyn came to be the only female in the Dark Shadows. Both Phaelyn and Idris are strong alpha characters. Idris has always had feelings for her but never acted on them. It wasn’t until they were alone that they realized that it was maybe more. There are a few dark moments in this book when Zoreal, the necromancer who tortured Idris, couldn’t handle losing and decides he needs some revenge. But don’t worry, there is plenty of HOTNESS to balance things out. It is another great book to continue this series.

Pavel

Review:

Rating: 4 Stars ✰✰✰✰

Pavel by Brianna West is the second book in the Guardians in Love series but can be read as a standalone novel.

Eve and her sister have always had special powers. Ones that seem to be stronger on their birthdays. Since their parents died when they were younger, they have no idea why they have them and no one to teach them how to use them, so they do their best to hide them.

That is until the night Eve is attacked on the streets while walking home by some strange creatures. She is saved by a man who has powers of his own.

His name is Pavel and it turns out he is her protector. The problem? He’s gorgeous and he has no problem showing it.

This book was too cute! Pavel is one of those annoying guys that has no problems letting you know how hot he knows he is and no matter how hard Eve tries to get him to back off, he refuses to go away.

The truth is, he’s kind of adorable, as are his friends. They grow on Eve and every once in a while, you see Pavel’s true feelings shine through.

Eve is learning about how special she really is and what her powers are really meant for. She is being trained by Pavel on how to use them as they spend more and more time together, she finds herself being attracted to him.

As their feelings grow though, they keep finding themselves in danger and things keep trying to keep them apart. It seems there is a dark side that wants Eve and her powers for themselves.

There is a little bit of everything in this book, humor, hotness, suspense, hotness, evil, hotness, paranormal, oh and did I say hotness. It’s all in there and very tastefully done. You can’t help but love the Characters no matter how annoying they can be at times.

Lightning Forgotten by Lila Felix is the third book in the Lucent Series.

In this story, Theo and Colby are on the run from Sanctum. They find themselves in the dessert and run into some unexpected friends. Colby is getting sicker everyday and no-one knows why.

They are soon joined by their friends Colin and Ari to help them in try to find and defeat Sanctum.

Things are becoming dire and Colby finally comes up with a solution, but the consequences may be too much to bare.

It took me a minute to figure out what was going on in this story. I haven’t read the first two books yet. I recommend you do or you will be lost like I was.

After the first couple of chapters, I started figuring out what was going on and the story became really interesting. I became invested in the characters and the outcome of their lives.

The storyline is clean and refreshing. You can tell the characters love each other, but the intimacy is kept at a strict G rating.

I’m looking forward to reading the first two books.

Kassandra's Wolf

Title: Kassandra’s Wolf

Series: The Dragon Ruby book 3

Author: Leilani Love

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Release Date: October 14, 2016

Kassandra's Wolf

Synopsis:

She drugged him!

Damien had never before been as outraged until he awoke in his apartment—alone. His head sore and his ego deeply bruised, his body ached for the release her enticing body had promised when they walked up those stairs a few hours earlier. The whole situation would’ve been laughable except for the fact that his wolf imprinted on her. Damien knew that from now until the day he died, she will be the only one for him—and she had drugged him. After a quick search of the bar, he decided that nothing notable was missing, leaving Damien hoping that whatever she was looking for—she didn’t find. Maybe, his delectable thief would try again, at his home next time.

Kassandra is the only Dragon Guard who has the ability to hide her scent. So, when the wayward Dragon Prince Dmitri is spotted in the same town as the wolf shifter Damien, it becomes her responsibility to see what he is up to. Not finding what she is looking for at his bar, she makes a plan to sneak into his house—imagine her surprise when he is there waiting for her. When he mistakes her for a common thief, Damien offers an ultimatum: spend two days with him or he will turn her in and plaster her picture everywhere.

Damien has two days to convince her to stay and give in to the attraction.

Kassandra has two days to get the information she came for and make her escape. But, with trouble circling them and her growing desire for him—will she be able to walk away? Will it even matter once he finds out who she really is?

Review:

Rating: 5 Stars ✰✰✰✰✰

Kassandra’s Wolf by Leilani Love is the third book in The Dragon Ruby series.

Damien and his sister lose their parents at a young age after Roses mate kills them. Their pack does nothing to help them, and so they feel they have no other choice then to leave. Afterwards Damien spends his life taking care of his sister and opening and running a very successful bar. He has a reputation for being a playboy who is never with the same woman twice.

He is not expecting to scent his mate in the unknown woman who walks in his bar one night.

Kassandra is a dragon there on a mission. She needs to know if Damien is planning something with Dmitri. She has no problem using her charms to get close to Damien. And when the chance presents itself, she drugs him and spends the rest of the night looking for anything that can give her answers.

She finds nothing and is left with no other choice then to break into Damien’s house.

She wasn’t expecting what happens next.

Now Damien has 2 days to persuade her to stay and Kassandra has 2 days to get the information she needs.

This was a well written book. There are just enough twists to make it interesting and keep you on your toes. I loved watching Kassandra soften to Damien as he shows her that he is much more then the player reputation that he has gained. I also like watching Damien realize his true place in his pack.

Leilani is really growing as an author and each book continues to be better then the next. I look forward to more.

In the Flesh

Review:

Rating: 5 Stars ✰✰✰✰✰

In the Flesh by K.D. Grace is the first book in her Medusa’s Consortium Series.

Susan’s friend Annie buys a deconsecrated church called Chapel House with plans to renovate it into a home for herself. She invites Susan to visit her at the church, but when Susan arrives, Annie is acting strange.

Annie is talking nonstop about her new boyfriend and how insatiable he is. The longer Susan is there, she starts to realize that something is not quite right in the church. She feels like there is someone there with her, but she can’t see them.

It turns out Annie’s new boyfriend isn’t human, and now he’s set his eyes on Susan.

Susan realizes she has to get them out of there, but that’s easier said then done. She finally escapes with the help of Michael, the contractor hired to do the renovations.

The longer Susan is around him, the more she starts to learn that the world she lives in and her place in it is not what she thought they were. The question is, can she survive it?

When I first started reading this book, I wasn’t sure I was going to like it. It is based in a country that I am unfamiliar with so I had a little bit of a hard time envisioning it.

But I have to tell you, the longer I read it, the more it pulled me in. It isn’t your average ghost story. There is so much heat in this book, yet it doesn’t take away from the story line at all. The characters are so interesting and I found myself sympathizing with all of them, even the being in the church at times.

I highly recommend this book, and I can’t wait to read the next one!

When Kindra goes to Judden’s house for a party she didn’t expect to imprint with a sexy werewolf. She needs to make the choice to listen to her body and stay with Judden or go back to California leaving Judden behind.

Rating: 4 Stars ✰✰✰✰

Review:

In Imprint: the Beginning by McKayla Schutt, Kindra is visiting her sister at college when she runs into Judden quite literally. In this book humans know about werewolves and are slowly coming to terms with the fact that they exists.

Kindra  has never met a real werewolf before so imagine her surprise when she imprints with one. That’s right, Judden is a werewolf.

This book really takes time to explain what an imprint is. You learn the ins and out of what it means to be imprinted and what happens next.

I love how the characters were drawn to each other before the imprint and how their relationship only grew the more they were together.

It was also cute how Kindra’s sister also imprinted.

Be aware, this is a short novella length book that is part of a series. The story continues into the next books in the series.

 Review:

Imprinted: The Change by McKayla Schutt picks up where the first book left off. There is a possible war with the Casper Pack on the horizon and Kindra and her sister have a choice to make. Stay human or change into a werewolf.

This book gets real. The action picks up as Seth, the alpha from the Casper pack is determined to start a war.

Kindra and Judden’s relationship is put to the test when a new alpha comes to town.

People die and roles are changed.

There is a large amount of action packed in this short story. There is also a good amount of hot, steamy love going on too. A great way to continue the story.

This book also ends in a cliffhanger. Be sure to look for the next book in the series.

Review:

Imprinted: The War by Mckayla Schutt is the final book in the Imprinted Series.

In this conclusion, War is on the horizon. Judden is now the alpha of the pack after Seth killed both his brothers and Emily, Seth’s own sister. The pack is calling for blood.

Kindra now has to step up to her role as the alpha female.

With all this going on, she also needs to decide if she is ready to start a family.

There is so much going on in this book, there is never a dull moment. Between the war, Kindra going on her heat cycle, and problems within the pack, you will not get bored reading this book.

It stays just as hot and steamy as the first two books as well.

This book makes putting up with all those cliffhangers worth it.

Hear the Heat

Review:

Rating: 4 Stars ✰✰✰✰

Hear the Heat by McKayla Schutt is a short story that was previously part of an anthology.

It is about Kelly and Brad who meet each other at a speed dating event that their friends dragged them to. They have immediate chemistry and decide to make a night of it.

What Brad doesn’t know is that Kelly has a special ability. She can hear what people are thinking when she wants too. Because of her ability she is part of a secret section of the FBI.

The question is, will Kelly let Brad in on her little secret and will he be able to handle it if he knows?

It’s nice to read a short story that doesn’t leave out the details. McKayla gives you just enough to help you envision the story, but doesn’t drag it out at the same time. You get to know the characters just enough to identify with them and make them feel real while continuing to move along with the story.

I love the instafeeling in this story. It’s not really love at first sight, but it is definitely lust at first sight. They both however have baggage that they have to get past before they decide if they want to turn it into a relationship.

This was a good little read and I enjoyed it.

Review:

Rating: 5 Stars ✰✰✰✰✰

Carnival of Darkness by Becca Moree is the first book in her Faetal Series.

There is so much going on in this little story, I am amazed.

First you have Brett. He works for a PI who is investigating the disappearances of several girls from the Carnival of Darkness. Brett can’t believe some of the stuff he has seen since infiltrating the carnival. He knows that he has to see his mission through in order to save all the girls.

Then there is Charlee. She is a single mom who just lost her husband. She didn’t even want to go the carnival. Scary is just not her thing. Things seem off after she gets her fortune told and they only get weirder from there.

The star of the rodeo catches her eye. She is mesmerized by him, but even more so by the fact that she can’t get a read on him. As the rodeo continues, she realizes that it’s worse then she thought. She can’t believe that the other spectators don’t realize what’s going on. She starts to question weather the things going on are really for show.

When Charlee tries to leave the carnival she finds herself kidnapped and made a part of the show. Brett takes one look at her and has the urge to throw all his hard work down the drain to save her.

Brett works for Mac, a PI with a knack for computers. Mac has noticed a group of men battling some strange things close to the carnival. He decides to enlist their help in figuring out what’s going on in the Carnival of Darkness.

The action never stops in this book. Add in some insta-love and a whole lot of creepy and you have one great story.

 Review:

Rating: 4 Stars ✰✰✰✰

Violca’s Vow is book 2.5 in The Dragon Ruby Series by Leilani Love.

This was a nice story. It is a novella following the first two books so if you haven’t read them first, you should. In this story Violca is trying to plan her wedding to Chase as well build an alliance with the vampire King Lazarro. If all goes smoothly, they will have a much better chance of fighting the hunters.
This was a nice short book that kind of finishes out this chapter of Violca’s and Chases love story. I was half expecting some kind of conflict to happen to get in the way of their happily ever after, but I think the point here was more to let them have a chance to start and settle into their lives together and that worked out just fine. I’m sure the conflict will pick back up in the next book and I’m looking forward to reading it.

Toma by Ariel Marie is book 2 in The Dark Shadows series. Each book in the series are written as stand alone novels though so you can read them out of order.

Anika is one of the few humans who have the privilege of knowing that vampires exist. She is best friends to Nadira, the vampire Princess and the considered to be a second daughter to the King and Queen. Toma is a vampire and one of Nadira’s 4 older brothers. He has known since the day he met Anika that she is his fated mate. Vampire politics has kept him from claiming her, but when she is attacked and goes to live in his families mansion, the pull to her is to great for him to resist. Can they make it work?

In this book, you get to see the darker side of vampire nature. As Toma continues to deny his claim on Anika, he slides further and further into that darkness. Poor Anika doesn’t have a clue why he’s treating her that way. She is already a self conscious girl and him refusing to acknowledge her in public only chips away more at her self esteem. The plot with the necromancers continues to thicken and a new element will be introduced. Add in more steamy romance the story just keeps getting better and better.

It only took me a day to read this book. I couldn’t put it down. I can’t wait to read the rest! This is a must read! Don’t forget to pick up the first book Princess as well.

About the Ariel Marie:

Author Ariel Marie

Ariel Marie fell in love with books at an early age. She can remember her first favorite book. She read the book so many times that it fell apart and she was devastated! Fast-forward thirty years later, Ariel now writes books she hopes readers will fall in love with and read over and over. Paranormal romance is her favorite genre. Who doesn’t love Shifters, Witches, Faes and all the other paranormals? She just loves writing about couple’s first meeting, the magnetism of when their eyes first meet and the first kiss! Her favorite part of writing paranormals is creating the world that the characters live in.
