My Review:

Rating: 5 Star ✰✰✰✰✰

Dirty Bird by H.Q. Frost and M. Piper is the second book in the Caged Series. It picks up right where Little Bird, book one in the series left off. You will want to read book one first.

If you have a weak stomach for graphic violence then this book is not for you. Lucas has built an empire for himself. Jasper is the face of that empire. Both men are obsessed with Megan Porter. That obsession has led them to kidnapping her.

Locked in a basement in Lucas’s mansion, Megan is desperate to get out and seek her revenge on the men who put her there. But she can’t help how her body reacts to one man in particular, Lucas.

Lucas has a plan. Keep Megan locked in the basement and slowly break her so that she’ll never want to leave him. But he soon learns the hard way that plans don’t always work out when two other men show up as competition. One, the man he calls brother, Jasper. The other, Ben Vig, her arranged fiancé.

What these men don’t know is that Megan has a plan of her own and no man will ever break her.

I’m not gonna lie. There were parts of this book that made my skin crawl, but I couldn’t stop reading it.

The first book ended with such a twist that I had to know what happened in this book. I ended up reading it all in one day.

These characters in this book are not good people in any way. Yet you can’t help to love them all, with the exception of Jasper. That man is just rotten to the core. The things he does to Megan would break a lesser woman. I get shivers just thinking about it.

Megan isn’t exactly the victim either. She is a cold hearted woman with a few soft spots. I couldn’t help admiring her determination. She wasn’t going to give those men what they wanted no matter what they did to her.

What can I say, I’m a sucker for a strong female lead, even if she isn’t very likable.

This book will leave you wondering who will be the victor until the very twisted end!

Grit Teaser

My Review:

Rating: 3 Stars ✰✰✰

Grit by J.M Walker is the first book in her King’s Harlots MC Series. Worlds collide in this biker meets military romance.

I love books that have a strong female lead in them and you don’t get much more badass then a female biker club.

Jay isn’t the type of woman to be told she can’t do something. When she was warned that an all female MC would never make it, she had to prove them wrong. Being the president of the King’s Harlots means constantly putting on a strong front and lately Jay isn’t feeling so strong.

Then Angel walks into her life. Construction business owner by day, Seal by night. He is starting to feel that there is something missing. Then he finds Jay and everything changes. That man likes to give orders and Jay just loves to submit to him. It made for some H-O-T love scenes!

There is a string of women going missing and Jay and Angel join forces to find the missing women and Jay’s twin sister who was taken over 2 years ago.

As I said earlier, I love a strong female lead. So I was excited when I learned that this was about a female biker club. Jay and her girls kind of had a revolving door or strength and weaknesses. They didn’t posses quite the “grit” that I was expecting in tough biker chicks. Having said that though, the girls were completely relatable. Under the circumstances of the story, I could understand why they would eventually show weakness.

The writing in the story was both good and bad. What I mean by that is each individual sections was well written, but transitions between each scene were almost nonexistent which made the story not flow well in my opinion. There were also quite a few gaps in the storyline that left me with several questions.

Was the construction crew for real or was it just a front? If it was a front, what was the reason for them working on the club? Why was Tyler so worried about Jay looking into the missing women? Aside from talking about the missing women and reading news articles on them, what exactly was the club doing to find the missing women?

I may not have found the answer to most of my questions by the end of the book, but I have to say that sticking it out to the end was pretty well worth it. The action in the end of the book was intense and I was honestly surprised by who the bad guy really was. Also I know the storyline continues through the next books in the series so there is a good chance that my questions might be answered then.

Review:

Rating: 4 Stars ✰✰✰✰

When I originally read this story, it was written as two separate books so please bare with me as I try to combine two reviews into one.

Shadows (Part 1)

Eve was just a normal girl going about her life. She had a job that paid the bills and her roommates Kayla and Matt were her two best friends since childhood. All she needed now was that man that gave her fireworks, not that she was looking. When tragedy strikes and delivers a devastating loss, a stranger is there to catch her. His name is Theron and he helps her find the strength to keep moving forward with her life. He is her fireworks, but are things moving too fast? As if things aren’t bad enough at home, there are some strange things going on at work as well. Will things ever get better for Eve?

I really enjoyed this book. Eve and Theron definitely have some growing to do in this book. Eve especially is learning how to stand on her own two feet and it was nice to see her assert her independence in the end. Theron seems like the perfect man. But he has many secrets and that just can’t be good for a relationship. There was one scene where I felt like Kayla’s actions were out of character. As a best friend, I would have thought that she knew better, but that’s just my opinion. I think I would have liked to have known more about what happened in the work place as well. None of those things take away from the story though. It’s just the drawback of reading the books backwards.

I highly recommend this book. It’s well written and has just the right mixture of romance, drama, and suspense.

Light (Part 2)

This part of the story starts out in the hospital shortly after Theron’s Grandmother dies. He is in a dark place and only Eve can seem to bring him out of it. She is so worried about his state of mind as the book progresses, that she keeps some pretty major secrets from him. In her defense though, she was going to tell him, she was just looking for the right time. More dangers pop up for them and it is starting to look like it might not be the usual suspects after all.

I was immediately drawn into this book and the lives of the characters. It was very well written and there was enough back story for me to be able to follow along having not read the other book. I have to say that if all men spoke the way Theron does to Eve, there would not be a need for romance books ever again. Talk about H-O-T! He’s a bit over bearing for my taste but he has his reasons. I have to say though that I could have used a bit more of his POV in the book. There were a few times I would have liked to know what was going on in his head. I think Eve is torn between being an independent person and needing to rely on Theron. She is definitely secure in her relationship and her love with him and I have to say, I respect that. Plus we all know how much hormones played a roll in a lot of her decisions.

This book had some great suspense in it. Combine that with some hot and steamy romance and this is one heck of a good book. Loved it and am looking forward to reading the first book so I can learn some more of the back story.

She always has.
That is mine as well.

My Review:

Rating: 4 Stars ✰✰✰✰

Morning Star is the first book in the Books of Lucifer Series by S. E. Rise. As Lucifer is going about his days, he reminisces on his past. We get to learn how Earth became his dominion and why he was cast down and given Hell to rule.

It’s almost hard not to like Lucifer in this book. Sure he’s a bad guy and he does bad things, but it’s mostly on impulse and if he happens to unintentionally hurt someone, he tries to make it right in a way that only he can. You see this many times throughout the book. His minions are loyal to him, but he has very few friends, and the ones he has don’t hesitate to double cross him when the need arises. One such friend is Cain. Cain is an old friend of Lucifers. He was cursed by God to walk the earth until the end of mankind because he killed his brother. Cain is up to something and Lucifer is determined to figure out what it is.

This was definitely a different take on biblical history. I had fun reading it and all the debacles that Lucifer found himself in. It’s got some gore, some sex, some demons, and some angels, some history, and a whole lot of shenanigans. If this is what you like then get this book. I’m looking forward to seeing what Lucifer gets himself into next.

Fabios Remorse

My Review:

Rating: 4 Stars ✰✰✰✰

Fabio’s Remorse by Aden Lowe is the 5 book in the Hell Raiders MC series. It can be read as a standalone novel though.

With just a few months left in his tour with the Army, Caleb gets a Dear John letter from his high school sweetheart. He couldn’t understand it. In her letter from just weeks before, she was still talking about plans for their upcoming wedding.

What Caleb doesn’t realize is that Justine is had her reasons. After being assaulted, she is living in her own misery. She feels that everything has been taken away from her. She is living in constant fear and her attackers are keeping that way on purpose.

As Caleb is transitioning from soldier to suvillian, he gets involved with the Hell Raiders MC. He earns the nickname Fabio and the name sticks.

When tragedy strikes, Fabio is forced back to his hometown and to Justine.

It was interesting to see how Fabio and Justine change throughout the book.

When Caleb get’s Justine’s letter, he just shuts down. He has questions, but instead of facing her and asking, he runs. The things he does while he’s serving in the war also have an effect on him as a person. He becomes a loner and withdrawn with the exception of his dog.

When he meets the MC, it gives him a chance to become part of a brotherhood. He has a place with them, and they don’t ask to many questions. Becoming Fabio gives him a chance at a new life.

Justine couldn’t face Caleb after the attack. She suffers in silence like so many women do after they have been assaulted. She becomes withdrawn and afraid of everything. Her friends and family don’t understand. It takes a toll on her.

I loved watching them both learn to trust again.

This book tells a story of what women can go through after being raped and assaulted. It’s a pretty heavy subject, but it was written very well. It also touches on PTSD in soldiers and victims. As hard as it can be to read, it is necessary. Great book!

Vindicate

Synopsis:

Vindicate is a follow up to Revenge, found in Doctrine of Indecency: 18 Coveted Tales of Lust!

Ethan West has been a playboy since his first wet dream but nothing could prepare him for Aspen.
In Revenge, Aspen and Ethan collide in an erotic tale of mending the weak and awakening the strength within a woman. When the weak aren’t strong enough to survive, Aspen ends the pain and suffering of lost love and a pathetic heart, the only way she knows how.
In Vindicate, Aspen is tested with decisions that will help her continue to right the wrongs that have plagued women for centuries or destroy her as she falls into the same wreckage her victims are subjected to.
When Ethan proves to be stronger and smarter than the hunted failures of Aspen’s past, she is forced to make a decision that will ultimately change the life she has created for herself. Take revenge on those who constantly choose to relive the horror of their decisions and take their lives, one bloody heart at a time or end the lives of the people responsible for her need to vindicate her actions.

Vindicate

Review:

 Rating: 4 Stars ✰✰✰✰

Vindicate by Virginia Johnson is a continuation of her short story Revenge. The story of Aspen and Ethan continues in an epic way! Revenge is also included in this book.

Chaos and destruction follow these two where ever they go! They both are drawn to each other and yet seem to do everything they can to destroy each other. I spent most of the book hoping to see them together but knowing that it would never be, at least not in the traditional way.

You get to see another side of Ethan in this story. The side that is just as messed up as Aspen. The side that loves pain among other things.

We also get to know why Aspen is the way she is.

This is a dark and somewhat disturbing look into what can become of us if we let our demons determine our thoughts and actions.

I loved every word of it!

one of those weeks

What’s going on with me?

Well last week we had a few unexpected financial issues so I was on a pretty tight budget, like feed a family of five to include 2 teenagers and a bottomless pit of a 9 year old on $50 for the week tight. Needless to say, my healthy eating lifestyle took a bit of a backseat to eating what I could afford. Want to know what I did? I made a batch of Grandmas Tomato Sauce because I had everything I needed to make it in the house. Then I bought some ground meat (it was on sale), an onion, and a green pepper, Some Nitrite & Nitrate free turkey hotdogs (they were also on sale), and hotdog buns. On Monday, I made chili using the tomato sauce I made that day and some of the other ingredients I bought. On Tuesday I ground up some of the chili and used it on the hotdogs the next day I made chili mac. And that is how my week went as far as nutrition went. Needless to say, I decided to say F*ck it made it a cheat week. Don’t judge me, we all do it.

Since it was my cheat week as far as food went, it also became my cheat week where exercise was concerned. What can I say, it has just been one of those weeks, and this week hasn’t been much better except for the eating part. Now on to funner things then whether I workout and ate good.

Last week I got to chaperone my youngest sons field trip to the North Western Trek. This was such a treat for me. I haven’t had much opportunity to be involved with his school this year and this is the only field trip they took. Neither of us had been there before and it was so much fun…….Once I fed the bottomless pit otherwise known as Jackson. (Yes he spent the first half of the day complaining he was hungry). So the Northwest Trekk is like a small zoo, game farm, or wildlife preserve. There were all kinds of animals there. We could walk on the path around the park and look at all the exhibits and animals, which we did. And then we took a tram which took us around some of the lakes where we saw caribou, long horned goats, and bison. Afterwards we ate lunch, walked around some more, and then the kids got to play on this new and I have to say, awesome, playground. It was a ton of fun and I was exhausted afterwards.

The next program that is on sale this month is Insanity Max:30. The genius of this program is that you workout as hard as you can for as long as you can, and when you can’t continue with good form, you stop and that is your Max Out time. These workouts are only 30 minutes long if you make it to the end. The first time I did this one I only lasted about 8 minutes. It is a great way to get fit in a shorter amount of time.
