Logic tells us that when we reach the end of something, we stop.
Life is a game, a book; everything has an ending, but what if the end is just the beginning? My end came a long time ago and I hope you’ll understand why I can begin again at that exact moment.
There are reasons these things happen. I’m not entirely sure what they all are, and I can name a certain few, but that would defeat the purpose of figuring it out. Everything should begin as a clean slate and end in flames. Nothing is salvageable if you really open your eyes and look at this putrid world. I was once taught that everyone deserves a second chance, everyone is wonderful in their own way, and everyone finds happiness.
I used to believe that because I had found my happiness. My sliver of sunshine on a rainy day. My cool, calm in the raging fires that spoke softly enough to quiet my malicious thoughts.
But there are only so many times you can roll the dice before you keep ending up with the same numbers.
Rating: 4 Stars ✰✰✰✰
Where Sleeping Gods Lie by Yolanda Olson has to be on of my top 3 favorites that she has written. It doesn’t rely on gore as much as many of her other stories do, however if you have every read a book by Yolanda, you know there is going to be a catch in the end.
When first getting to know Fai and Koval, they seem like your normal couple who like spicing things up every now and then by adding a third. That’s where Angie comes in. However, things take a wrong turn when a drunk Angie says all the wrong things and sends Koval into a downward spiral.
In an effort to save Koval from himself, Fai gets Angie to take him across the border to their secluded cabin. Angie is hell bent on making it up to the two men in any way she can. That was her first mistake.
I spent the whole book falling in love with Fai and Koval. I felt that Koval was full of angst and had major issues, while Fai fought to keep him balanced. It’s this reason that I never would have guessed the ending.
Technically this book would be considered a horror, but honestly it doesn’t read that way. More like a suspense. You know something is going to go terribly wrong, but you don’t know when or how.
That’s all I can say without giving away the ending. So you’ll just have to read it for yourself.
